Azerbaijan develops car recycling program

“Cleaning facilities in about 500 large public establishments have been installed in major cities of the country to neutralize air emissions” the Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Mukhtar Babayev stated at the press conference of New Azerbaijan Party, ONA reports.

The Minister stated that of the more than 1 million 402 thousand vehicles currently used in the transport sector, 35% have a production history of 10 years, 23% have a production history of more than 20 years, and 19.1% have a production history of more than 30 years.

“Compared to 2016, car imports in 2018 increased by more than five times. It may be beneficial to apply various tax, customs privileges and subsidies to upgrade the country's car park, as well as to expand the use of environmentally friendly vehicles to reduce the harmful environmental impact of the transport field. A program for the utilization of vehicles is being prepared by the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan amid to remove of outdated, technical and environmentally unsafe vehicles in order to improve the environmental situation in the country, as well as, to stimulate local car production.”
