Leyla Abdullayeva: "Azerbaijani President explained that concept of “Nagorno Garabagh people” does not exist"

“The position of the current authorities of Armenia is nothing more than self-deception and deception of their own people, however, it is impossible to deceive the international community and will not be possible,”,  the head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva said  while commenting on the last statement of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia on the interests of the “Nagorno Garabagh people”, ONA reports.

L. Abdullaeva noted that Azerbaijan’s position on this issue has been repeatedly voiced.

According to her, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the Valdai international discussion club quite thoroughly, concrete, clearly and decisively spoke about this: "There is an urgent need for the political leadership of Armenia to carefully study international documents adopted as part of the conflict settlement process, as well as statements by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. None of the documents on the settlement of the conflict regarding the population of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in any way refers to the concept of "people". In this regard, I would like to remind you that the joint statement by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as the relevant agreements of the two parties to the conflict referred to by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, clearly states the need to prepare the populations for peace. The head of the Republic of Azerbaijan in an accessible and clear form for everyone explained that the concept of “Nagorno-Karabakh people” does not exist, it is about the Azerbaijani and Armenian people in this region of Azerbaijan."

The spokesperson noted that if the Armenian side is really interested in the victory of democracy in this region, then Armenia, as a country that exercises real control over the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, should, first of all, withdraw its troops from these territories and do not hinder the forcibly expelled Azerbaijani population to return to their lands, which will serve to ensure their legal and democratic rights.
