It is planned to build 4 terminals in 35 hectares of the area rented by Azerbaijan in Iran, Head of the Tariff Department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Elkhan Asadov said, ONA reports.
According to him, the terminals will be for general purpose, oil, grain and container processing.
“Currently, cargo transportation is implemented in Iranian route. They are mainly general purpose loads. For example, forestry materials are transported from Russia to Iran and in the opposite direction; metallurgy products, grain, etc. are transported. A month ago, the foundation for the Rasht-Astara railway was laid, which will connect the Azerbaijani and Iranian railways,” E. Asadov stated.
He said that 3,100 cars were purchased by Azerbaijan Railways in relation to modernization of railways, and 7 locomotives out of 50 to be purchased were brought to the country.
