The first exploration well will be drilled at the Shafag-Asiman perspective structure by the end of the current year, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, BP’s vice president for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, said, ONA reports.
According to him, it will be possible to give information about a more specific amount of reserves in the field after revealing the results of this exploration well:
“However, according to the assumptions of geologists in the current stage, the predicted gas reserves are at the level comparable to the reserves of the Shah Deniz field.”
B. Aslanbayli said that it is planned to drill three exploration wells within the next 12-18 months. As a result, this will be the first experience in a deeper part of the Caspian Sea.
“It is predicted that there are also enough oil reserves. This will be an important project for the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan,” B. Aslanbayli noted.
