German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the new EU Gas Directive will not affect the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, ONA reports citing Tellerreport.
“The project is almost fully approved. The New Gas Directive gives the European Commission more opportunities to protest .. However, it will not prevent the project either, ”Handelsblatt quoted Merkel as saying.
At the same time, in her opinion, the participation of Ukraine as a gas transitor is of key importance in the implementation of the project.
Previously, Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Nord Stream 2, received confirmation from the European Commission of its readiness for dialogue on amendments to the Gas Directive.
