Minister: Southern Gas Corridor to allow Azerbaijan to double gas exports to Turkey

İt is impossible to get great benefits from energy resources without an infrastructure, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at the Second International "Belt and Road" Cooperation Forum in China.

According to ONA, the Minister of Energy spoke about the participation of Azerbaijan in the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative.

He highlighted the role of the country’s energy policy in the implementation of the projects serving the Silk Road Economic Belt.

The Minister noted that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Supsa oil pipelines, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, the TANAP, and TAP gas pipelines within the Southern Gas Corridor, which constitute the energy component of the Silk Road corridor, contribute to the energy security, social welfare, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Minister also touched upon the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor. He said that this corridor will allow Azerbaijan to double gas exports to the Turkish market, as well as to enter the markets of Southeast Europe, the Balkan countries, and Western Europe at the next stage.

At the same time, the corridor nature of this project will make its branching possible on a larger scale by increasing the number of gas sources, suppliers and consumers in the future, he added.
