UNESCO to discuss ways to help France restore Notre Dame cathedral after fire

The United Nations Educations, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will discuss at its plenary session on Tuesday the issue of providing assistance to France in restoration of the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral that was damaged in the fire, Russia's Ambassador to UNESCO Alexander Kuznetsov told Rossiya 24 TV channel, ONA reports citing TASS.

"UNESCO's Executive Board is currently holding a session in Paris. Tomorrow [on Tuesday] they will hold a plenary session where they will discuss what UNESCO can do to help restore this landmark," Kuznetsov said. "I am confident that the issues of providing assistance to France in restoring this outstanding landmark will also be discussed," he added.

The Russian ambassador expressed hope that the international community will find a way to help France and will assist in dealing with the aftermath of the Notre Dame fire.

A fire broke out at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on Monday at around 7 pm local time. The fire is believed to have broken out because of the renovation works underway at the cathedral.

The top part of the spire and the clock of the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral have collapsed as a result of the fire. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
