Nizami Safarov: “Cultural treasures taken by Armenians from Azerbaijani territory must be returned”

Both Azerbaijan and Armenia are the participants of the convention on the protection of spiritual riches during the war, said  Nizami Safarov, member of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building, ONA reports.

The deputy said that Armenia has violated the requirements of the international convention in 30 years: “This is irresponsible behavior of Armenia related to the international law. Armenia completely violates the terms and requirements of the conventions to which it is a party. The damage to our cultural heritage should be assessed, in general, in the context of the assessment of the damage done. The cultural resources taken out of the territory of Azerbaijan by Armenians should be returned to us. UNESCO, the UN, as well as western countries should participate in this work. Damage to cultural heritage should be compensated.  The perpetrators of such crimes should be brought to justice. Unfortunately, we witness double standards in this area, too.”
