“No one should think that the restoration of the historical monument means to return it to the original form,” Abulfas Garayev, Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture said at a press conference, ONA reports.
He stated that discussions were held for six years to include Sheki on the World Heritage List: “In 2017, we were given recommendations regarding Sheki, and we fulfilled them. Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture has a dedicated Service for the preservation of historical monuments. The Service finds new monuments and carries out their conservation.”
The Minister noted that the conservation of monuments aimed to prevent the demolition of the monuments in the future: “Perhaps people do not feel it, but every year representatives of the Ministry supervise the monuments in Sheki and other places and try to keep the monuments in the same condition.”
