“As it is known, one of the duties arising from the trilateral statement dated November 10, 2020, signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia is to ensure the exchange of prisoners, hostages and bodies for humanitarian purposes. The sides firstly began the process of collecting the bodies of military servicemen left in the battle zone," Eldar Samadov, deputy head of the working group of the State Commission of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons said in an interview with AZERTAC, ONA reports.
He noted that works in this field are carried out by the mediation of peacekeepers of Russia and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC): “Since the beginning of the process up today the bodies of 314 Azerbaijani servicemen and bodies of 775 Armenian servicemen have been removed from the combat zone. Currently, the process is being continued.”
E. Samadov noted that another important duty is the release of captives and hostages on the basis of the “all to all” principle: “14 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan were released from Armenian captivity and hostage and brought to Baku on December 14, 2020, as a result of the measures, taken by State Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons under the instruction of the head of our state Ilham Aliyev. 12 of them were captivated during the Patriotic War due to different reasons, but 2 persons are Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, who were captivated and imprisoned illegally in the territory of Kalbajar district in July of 2014. Released persons have been provided with comprehensive care and attention by our state, they are treated and restore their health condition.”
