27 years pass since occupation of Shusha

Twenty-seven years have passed since the occupation of Azerbaijan’s Shusha city by Armenian armed units, ONA reports.

The occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh was completed when the Armenian armed forces seized this ancient Azerbaijani city, with rich history and culture, on May 8, 1992. Thus, the Armenians managed to actually tear off this region from Azerbaijan.

As a result of the occupation of Shusha, 480 innocent civilians were killed, 600 were injured and 22,000 were displaced from their homeland. There is still no information about the fate of 68 our compatriots who were taken, hostage.

Several historical and cultural monuments in Shusha were plundered by the enemy as a result of the occupation. In this list are 279 religious, historical and cultural monuments, including the Khan Cave, the Gakhal Cave, and the Shusha Fortress.

The Armenians destroyed or Armenianized many monuments belonging to Azerbaijan.

They destroyed seven pre-school institutions, 22 secondary schools, cultural-enlightenment and agricultural colleges, 8 culture houses, 14 clubs, 20 libraries, 2 cinemas, 3 museums and an Eastern musical instruments factory in Shusha.

In total, as a result of occupation of Shusha by the Armenian armed forces, 289 square kilometers of Azerbaijani territory fell under Armenian control.
