Foreign Ministry: "The co-chairs held meetings with both Armenian and Azerbaijani communities of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of visit"

The meeting of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs with the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh is not the first meeting in this format, reads the statement by the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan in connection with comments in the last days about the meeting of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs with the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh in the framework of a recent visit to the region, ONA reports.

“This is not the first meeting in this format. Up to now, the co-chairmen held meetings with the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh and with representatives of the Azerbaijani community as part of visits to the region. There is nothing surprising here; this is part of the co-chairs mandate. The 1995 Co-Chair’s mandate states: “The Co-Chairmen will be guided in their activities by the principles and norms of the OSCE, the United Nations Charter, decisions of the OSCE fora, including the decisions by the Council of Ministers on 24 March 1992 and particularly the Budapest Summit Decision, and as applicable resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.”

In the statement of the co-chairs made on March 9 of this year, it was noted that along with the contacts between Yerevan and Baku, discussions with the concerned parties also continue.

We would like to emphasize that the position of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh and the issue of their return to their lands along with other IDPs have always been part of the negotiations. This issue is also reflected in the above statement of the co-chairs and “the return of all IDPs and refugees to their homes” is reflected as an important element of the negotiations. Definitely it can be noted that the Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of our country is an important part of the negotiations.

At the same time, it should be taken into consideration that negotiations to resolve the conflict are held between Armenia and Azerbaijan in accordance with the relevant OSCE resolutions, and this approach is also supported by the co-chairs of the Minsk Group.

In conclusion, we giving an easy answer are urging those who are interested in the issues discussed at the negotiating table to familiarize themselves with the statement of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs dated March 9, 2010. Then all the speculations will end, ”the statement reads.
