Ambassador: "Agreement between European Union and Azerbaijan is at final stage"

"Within the framework of the virtual summit of the leaders of the Eastern Partnership countries, President of the Europen Council Charles Michel and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev clearly noted that partnership is a priority for both sides", said Kestutis Jankauskas, Head of EU Delegation in Azerbaijan during his speech at the online conference entitled as “Post-pandemic: support to resumption of activity of small and medium businesses (SMB)”, ONA reports.

“The parties have agreed that they will intensify their efforts for the signing of the new agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan. As you know, the agreement is in the last phase of preparation. But some issues are left which are still discussed. And they are associated with the trade sector. I believe that this new agreement will serve as a means for our common economy and our trade relations. I think we will continue the negotiations in a short time. The negotiations in the area of aviation have almost been completed. The flights have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I think in the current conditions, it is high time to understand the degree of significance of this agreement. It will strengthen tourism, will create an opportunity for contacts between peoples, and for more exchanges, and will support regional business and regional development. This is an opportunity, and I call on everybody to correctly evaluate this opportunity. The EU together with all its members is ready for cooperation with partners using the available opportunities and practices. These opportunities are great and should be used smartly”, K. Jankauskas noted.
