Ambassador: "Iran-Azerbaijan relations – an example for others"

"Our relations with Azerbaijan among neighbors should be an example for others", said Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Seyyed Abbas Mousavi at a press conference, ONA reports.

"There are no such relations, ties with other countries as ones existing between the two countries. Thanks to these ties I don’t feel like a stranger in Baku. The ties between countries and peoples are deep. There are sincere relations between leaders of the two countries. The relations between Iran and Azerbaijan haven’t been so close throughout history and I arrived in your country as ambassador in such conditions. I had a good meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. It was an exclusive meeting. It was a sincere and efficient meeting. And it was an inspiring meeting. He knows deeply the relations between the two countries. He knows both bilateral and regional relations and relations on the international platform. The President is strongly committed to drawing closer relations between the two countries.  His words were important for me as the ambassador in this country. The relations with neighbors represent a priority for Iran. The relations with Azerbaijan are role models for other neighboring countries. Azerbaijan enjoys a special place and esteem in Iran. We pay special reverence to Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and government. The political relations between the two countries are at a high level, but economic relations are not at the same level. During my tenure, I will try to raise our economic relations to the level of political relations and there is a great potential for this," said Mr Ambassador.
