Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Chairman of the National Security Council of Iran, Rear Admiral Upper Half Ali Shamkhani, ONA's Tehran Bureau reports.
During the meeting, ways of developing bilateral and regional cooperation were discussed.
A. Shamakhani said that the development of bilateral cooperation, in particular the development of economic relations, is desired by the peoples and the leadership of both countries.
A. Shamakhani called the existing borders between Azerbaijan and Iran the gates of friendship and peace: “There is a great potential for the development of trade relations between the two countries. This can contribute to stability, prosperity and security in both countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to remove obstacles that hinder the implementation of the agreements reached by the two countries. Improving the North-South railway project is important for the region and Azerbaijan in terms of deepening economic cooperation. The warm and friendly relations between Iran and Azerbaijan are not directed against any country. The destructive forces in and outside the region can never affect these connections.”
In his turn, Azerbaijani FM stressed the importance of negotiations between officials of the two countries. He noted that Azerbaijan is interested in the development of comprehensive cooperation with Iran. The minister said that official Baku will continue to develop cooperation with Tehran. He stressed that the sanctions will not affect the good relations between the two countries.
