“Adoption of a law on so-called “Armenian genocide” by the US House of Representatives is not a coincidence”, Chairman of the Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament on International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Samad Seyidov said at a briefing, APA reports.
S. Seyidov stated that it should be assessed as a non-objective decision with double standards: “Azerbaijan always stands by Turkey. The adoption of politicized decisions aims at the further intensification of the situation in the region. Those who presented a law draft on the so-called “Armenian genocide” to the House of Representatives and support it, are the people who meet with the so-called “Foreign Minister of Nagorno Garabagh” in Congress and hold hearings. These issues are related to each other. All of these are issues seriously affect both Azerbaijan and Turkey. The organization of hearings under the title of “Artsakh” in the Congress affects the US's image as a Co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group.
The United States pretends itself as an objective side in relations with Azerbaijan, and such steps taken by the Congress are contrary to US interests in the region. As the Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Relations of Milli Majlis, I condemn the decision made by the House of Representatives.
I think that this is an attempt to undermine Azerbaijan-US relations by the Armenian lobby. There were even no more than 10-15 people attending those hearings.
And the participants in the hearings under the name of “Artsakh” at the Congress are the ones who presented a draft about a so-called "genocide" to the House of Representatives”. The Committee Chairman noted that, relations between Azerbaijan and the US are at a high level, and the US support for Azerbaijan's energy projects is obvious: "But the Armenian pro-Congress forces operating in Congress are trying to strike both Azerbaijan and Turkey, and the biggest damage is given to US interests in the region."
S. Seyidov also said that the Azerbaijani delegation will visit the US soon.
