Charles Michel called meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders extremely useful

The President of the European Union Commission Charles Michel stated that the meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan is important, ONA reports.

He noted that sincere and open dialogue on the situation in the South Caucasus took place: “The European Union is committed to its willingness to play a positive role in the region for more stability and welfare. We want to support needed humanitarian gestures, efforts, which will build confidence between the two sides. At the same time, we are ready to support all positive efforts with other actors. As you know, we have always supported the Minsk Group and all efforts aimed at the achievement of more security, stability. We have shown that direct tools are effective in even complex issues and it is needed. Naturally, the first point on such difficult issues is to listen to each other, to understand where we are, to see which differences exist among our approaches and sights, sometimes to reveal different arguments. I resolutely believe that the meeting was too much beneficial, believe that such kinds of direct contacts will be kept in short and medium-term. I want to stress once more that the EU is ready to do its part with other partners. Because we have a clear view, clear targets for more peace, stability, and welfare in the region.”
