Elmar Mammadyarov: "Azerbaijan to promote the principles supported by the Non-Aligned Movement during its chairmanship"

"Azerbaijan takes over the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement this year", said Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov during his speech at the preparatory meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement countries’ Foreign Ministers in Baku, ONA reports.

E. Mammadyarov said that Venezuela has promoted the principles of the Movement during its presidency for three years and has made the necessary progress in their implementation: “The Non-Aligned Movement is an essential international platform for political dialogue and cooperation”.

The Minister said that Azerbaijan would promote the principles supported by the organization during its chairmanship. E. Mammadyarov added that the Non-Aligned Movement has played a fundamental role in the provision of peace and security since its foundation. In the current international geopolitical situation, the organization faces important tasks.

E. Mammadyarov added that Azerbaijan has entirely implemented all its duties and responsibilities since 2011 when it joined the bloc and promoted the bloc’s principles.

The Minister said that Azerbaijan’s made great achievements due to its steady progress policy: "Azerbaijan has transformed into a successful model of promoting economic power and cultural diversity today".

The minister also touched upon the Nagorno Garabagh conflict. He noted that this conflict threatens regional and international security: "Azerbaijan has been suffering from this conflict for many years."

Recall that the XVIII Summit of heads of states and governments of Non-Alignment Movement member states will be held in Baku on October 25-26.
