Hikmat Hajiyev: “Armenia is not interested in negotiations, tries to strengthen the occupation”

“The document contains numerous references to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the Azerbaijani side is accused, and it has been allegedly noted that there is Armenian phobia in Azerbaijan,” said Presidential Aide and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev regarding Armenia's new National Security Strategy, ONA reports.

He noted that in addition, the document contains points on the illegal regime created by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

“In this regard, I would like to stress that the facts and arguments about the conflict in the Strategy are also false. Armenia occupied Azerbaijan’s Nagorno Garabagh region and adjacent seven regions. Armenia committed genocide against Azerbaijanis, implemented ethnic cleaning, committed war crimes. Despite of requirements of 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council, Armenia hasn’t yet withdrawn its army from the occupied territories. Armenia implements illegal activities on the occupied territories, as well as conducts the policy of illegal settlement. Armenia tries to erase traces of Azerbaijan on the occupied territories. Armenia blatantly violating ceasefire on contact line and state border, commits provocations, deliberately subjects to fire civil population and facilities of Azerbaijan. Armenia is not interested in negotiations and tries to artificially protract status-quo and to strengthen the occupation.

In regard to the fictitious statements about battles in April of 2016, I would like to note that in those times the Armenian armed forces resorted to another provocation against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan was forced to take response measures in order to protect its own population. During the last provocation committed by Armenia on the site of Tovuz region of the state border, the civil population and civil facilities were also deliberately targeted once again”, the Presidential aide noted.
