Margvelashvili: “It is impossible to weaken the ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan"

“The relation between Georgia and Azerbaijan are constantly developing based on common interest,” said former Georgian president Giorgi Margvelashvili, who attend the VII Global Baku Forum , ONA reports.

He stated that  Azerbaijan and Georgia are strategic partners.

“We are developing the region in such a way that our and other nations can take advantage of new opportunities. Today, the President of Azerbaijan spoke about the formats that we are developing together. I would especially like to mention the formats in the transport and energy sectors. In the near future, the TAP project will enter an active phase. This project will solve the energy problem not only of the region, but also of southern Europe,” – Margvelashvili said.

Speaking about the relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan, the former president stressed that it is impossible to weaken them: “Our ties are centuries-old. Contributions have been made to these ties since the first years of our independence. Presidents Heydar Aliyev and Eduard Shevardnadze developed these ties. We also continue the policy in this direction. ”

G. Margvelashvili also said that Georgia supports the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the basis of peace and the principles of international law.
