Meeting held with Secretary of Serbian National Security Council in Baku - UPDATED

Nebojsa Stefanovic, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Secretary of National Security Council of the Republic of Serbia is on a visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on August 10-12, ONA reports.

On August 11, Secretary of Security Council under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramil Usubov, Assistant of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev have received Nebojsa Stefanovic.

The present condition of Azerbaijan-Serbia relations was discussed at the meeting and the detailed exchange of ideas was conducted regarding perspectives of development of bilateral relations between the countries in various spheres including the spheres of politics and security and the future joint steps in this regard.

The regular political dialogue and friendly relations of heads of our states were especially noted and it was stressed that there is a wide potential for further development of comprehensive cooperation between our countries. 

The satisfaction with close cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia in the framework of international organizations was expressed, especially the importance of supporting the principles of territorial integrity of states and inviolability of borders was noted.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of interest.

Secretary of Security Council under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramil Usubov, Assistant of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov, and Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia Eldar Hasanov attend the meeting.

The issue of use by the Armenian side of the weapons made in Serbia during the incidents occurred as a result of Armenia’s provocation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border in July is being discussed at the meeting.

Note that on August 7, President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic made a phone call to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. President Aleksandar Vucic extended condolences over the killing of Azerbaijani servicemen during the events on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in July as a result of Armenian provocations. At the same time, the Serbian President expressed his regret over the use of Serbian-made weapons by Armenia during those military clashes. He noted that a high-level Serbian delegation would soon be dispatched to Azerbaijan to investigate the situation.
