Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva commented on the issue of the ancient building located at Suleyman Rustam Street 10, Nasimi district.
According to ONA, Mehriban Aliyeva wrote on Her Instagram page:
"Protecting the architectural and historical heritage of Azerbaijan and its capital Baku is a priority task for all of us. To solve it, both civilian position and people's indifference to the architectural appearance of their hometown and active public control are necessary. The situation around the old building on Suleiman Street Rustam in Baku is under state control. All measures are being taken so that the cultural heritage of our country is not damaged, because unique and diverse architectural monuments are our common heritage. Our country, our city should be protected as a home - our common home!"
Note that the building, built in 1913, previously functioned as a Malakans' prayer house. Currently, the club is based there “Salaam Cinema Baku”. The building was privatized in 2008, and in recent days the owner is demanding to release him from “Salaam Cinema Baku”.
Employees of “Salaam Cinema Baku” and the club’s fans who joined them said that they were not going to leave the building, arguing that it would be demolished after they left.
They appealed to the first vice president to protect the ancient building.
