“Violent extremism threatens the welfare of our society,” UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Moratinos said during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue under the motto 'Building dialogue into action against discrimination, inequality and violent conflict' held in Baku.
He said that the UN Alliance of Civilizations is a partner of the Baku Process: “Forum includes 3 main principle - promotes dialogue, action and 3rd concept conception. This conference was organized on time. I came to Baku from Sri Lanka. I shared my solidarity with the victims of terror. Three churches were attacked by extremists. Different conflicts have always been. At present, there is a very dangerous and different approach. We should try to reduce hatred. Hate is to try to destroy others. The issue is not the religion, but the problem is people who use religion to manipulate. We have to protect all the people and their religious freedom. They should have the right to pray in peace. UN promotes peace through the Alliance of Civilizations. We have to promote negotiations.
Miguel Moratinos stated that full success has not been achieved so far in this field: “The forum dedicated to intercultural dialogue sends a message of peace. We have been supporting each other for many years. Baku can become a regional hub of the UN Alliance of Civilizations. We have to build new alliances and work together.”
