Three unknown targets, which entered waters of the Republic of Azerbaijan from the south direction in the Caspian Sea and moved in the north direction, were detected and taken under control by technical observation stations of State Border Service Coast Guard at about 11:00 p.m on October 16, 2021, SBS told ONA.
Border guard ships guarding the state border in the Caspian Sea were immediately sent in that direction in order to stop unknown vessels entering the waters of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The movement of unknown vessels was prevented by the border guard ships of the SBS Coast Guard. Following the warning fire from the border guard vessel, the pursued speedboats threw their cargo into the water, moved backwards and left the waters of the Caspian Sea belonging to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The cargo was removed from the water and found to contain 23,780 cigarette boxes worth about 100,000 manats.
Operational-investigative measures are being taken on the fact.
