Stefan Schennach: "It was not an official meeting"

Armenian press has once again told a lie and carried out a provocation.

Panaroma.am news website of Armenia wrote that the “ombudsman” of the separatist  Nagorno-Karabakh regime Artak Beglaryan met with Co-Rapporteur of the PACE Monitoring Committee on Azerbaijan Stefan Schennach within the framework of Autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), human rights issues were discussed at the meeting, A. Beglaryan brought to the attention of co-rapporteur the existence of the Armenian phobia in Azerbaijan.

ONA’s European correspondent asked the attitude of Co-Rapporteur Stefan Schennach on the news disseminated about his meeting with A. Beglaryan. Mr Schennach said any official meeting, that Armenian media wrote, is out of the question: "It was not an official meeting. Someone from the Armenian Embassy just introduced me to him. It was said he is an ombudsman. I am a polite man. He gave me some documents. I will read the document, have not read yet. We can talk to people who are coming to the Council of Europe. He was introduced to me. I know some things written and these things are not correct. I have not read the news written on Armenian media. I have just listened and made no comment”

According to, Schennach, He was speaking about cases that people in the frozen conflict zone, for instance in Abkhazia, cannot move.

Samad Seyidov, head of the permanent delegation of Azerbaijan to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has also commented on the news disseminated in Armenian media on the meeting of PACE co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan Stefan Schennach with Artak Beglaryan.

Samad Seyidov told ONA’s European correspondent that nobody could enter the building of the Council of Europe with any document or illegal card of separatist Nagorno Karabakh: “All of them enter here with Armenian passports and then present themselves as a representative of Nagorno Karabakh for provocation. They carry out provocative measures in corridors or canteen generally. It is free to approach to all here. They approach, took video, and pass it on mass media under cover of “holding an official meeting”. It is the next Armenian provocation. Armenian provocation should not be believed at all. Any official person can not hold an official meeting with them in PACE. Nobody can enter here with fake documents of Nagorno Karabakh. Their purpose is to create a separatist climate in PACE too. It is a clear provocation, committed contrary to the Council of Europe and its values.”
