Chip reading devices to be distributed to polling stations from today

"The issuance of identity cards of new generation was launched in September 2018. New identity cards have been presented to a large number of the country’s citizens. Place of residence is not indicated on identity cards of new generation”, said Rovzat Gasimov, Deputy Chairman of Central Election Commission (CEC) at the CEC”s meeting held today, APA reports.

“There is a micro-chip on those identity cards, and the information about a citizen is gathered in that chip", he added.

According to him, as many as 2,500 chip reading devices had already brought in ready-for-operation status: "There are a total of 5049 polling stations in the country. Approximately till Thursday of the next week, all polling stations will be equipped with chip reading devices. Starting from today, the distribution of those devices to the polling stations will be launched. I think no problem will be encountered in reading of identity cards of new generation during the municipal elections”, he concluded.

Note that the municipal election in Azerbaijan will be held on December 23.
