Air pollution rate significantly declines in Azerbaijan during quarantine period, says Minister

The observation and monitoring activities are implemented by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in connection with the changes occurring in the nature during the quarantine period, said Mukhtar Babayev, minister of Ecology and Natural Resources at the press conference of the Task Force under the Cabinet of Ministers, ONA reports.

He said currently, the implementation of the monitoring activities in accordance with the up-to-date international standards is being ensured: "The new generation automatic stations are being installed in order to conduct uninterrupted monitoring of atmospheric air pollution in large cities of our country. At the same time, the portable mobile laboratory is functioning which allows for conducting initial analysis in any part of the country. The comparative analysis of results of the researches shows that the anthropogenic influences on the environment have significantly declined during the quarantine period". The minister said especially the air pollution level has significantly decreased: "During March-April-May of this year, the concentration of various contaminants is less to noticeable extent as compared with the same period of 2019. The reason for this is the restriction of activity of industrial and public catering facilities and sharp decline in use of automobiles during the quarantine period".
