The Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations Gunduz Ismayilov stated his views on the teaching of religious education at the secondary and higher educational institutions, ONA reports.
G.Ismayilov stated that the issue is not to teach the religion and shariah laws: “The issue is to teach primary religious knowledge. We have to teach primary religious knowledge, not the radical powers”.
According to the Committee official, the reactions to this suggestion showed that the teaching of religious knowledge at the secondary schools is an actual and important issue: “The position of the State Committee on Religious Associations is not changed and remained the same. Beginning from September, the subject of “Introduction to Multiculturalism” will be taught at the higher educational institutions. It will be taught as a general subject, unlike the previous one. Multiculturalism will be on the first part, religions and history of religions will be on the second part. The teaching of this subject is not a new issue. It has been taught since 2015. However, from September it will be the main subject”.
Regarding secondary schools G.Ismayilov stated that “Life science” subject has been taught for many years: “Teaching of religious knowledge is not a subject of discussion. “Life science” is not only consisted of religious knowledge, but also contains the information regarding the history of religions. The religious knowledge is transferred in 3 ways according to international experience. Religious upbringing is conducted by family, knowledge by religious institutions – madrasas and educational institutions. The math or physics is not taught to make everybody a mathematician”.
