Tax department employees detained while taking bribe in Azerbaijan - OFFICIAL

According to the resolute political will of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the complex, systematical and consistent measures are being continued in the area of fight against such negative factors as corruption and bribery including corruption offenses in various areas and senior officials committing them and thereby casting a shadow on people’s social welfare in our country, the Press services of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Economy told ONA.

It is noted in the joint report submitted by the Press services that in order to fulfill the tasks assigned by the head of state in this area, the consistent and urgent measures are being implemented by the Main Department for Fight against Corruption under the General Prosecutor in the area of unmasking and bringing to responsibility under the law of the senior state officials not complying with professional conduct rules of a state official and ethical norms and committing corruption crimes by grinding their own axe.

During the investigation it has been determined employees of the Operative Tax Control Department of Main Department for Work with Small Businesses of the State Tax Service in Baku Azer Allahverdiyev and Jahid Tahirov had cooperated beforehand, arrived at a bakery, belonging to a citizen, and required AZN 6000 for exchange of not conducting tax controls during the current year.

As a result of carried out emergent investigative-operational measures by using special technical means, these persons were detained red-handed on May 4, 2020, while they were receiving a part of the amount as a bribe.

A criminal case has been launched with Article 311.3 (bribery) of the Criminal Code at the General Office for Fighting against Corruption under the Prosecutor General's Office. As the grounds for suspicion that the crime was committed by A.Allahverdiyev and J.Tahirov has been determined, they have been detained as suspects and involved in the investigation.

Currently, necessary investigative-operational measures are being continued in order to the full and thorough investigation of all the circumstances over the criminal case.
