“Vaccination process is carried out in stages. Group of persons, to be vaccinated in different stages, is determined by each country itself,” said Chief infectious diseases specialist of the Ministry of Health Tayyar Eyvazov, ONA reports.
He noted that a more sensitive part of people, included in the risk group, are involved in the process in the first stage in most countries. These groups of people include, firstly, workers of the healthcare system, persons who suffer from chronic diseases of the respiratory system, people, who are over 65, and others: “Currently, vaccination process against novel coronavirus infection has been started in several countries. These are the USA, the EU countries, England, Russia, Turkey, and other countries. The effectiveness of vaccines applied with the permission of relevant responsible agencies have been assessed very highly (95-98%) based on different clinic investigations. However, the effectiveness indicators among various population groups will be further clarified based on the mass use of the vaccine. At the same time, as a result of the observations, the durability of the artificial immunity created by vaccination, and the period of protection against the infection will be determined.”
Chief infectious disease specialist noted that vaccination is planned to be carried out at the expense of the state and on a voluntary basis: “It is also planned to raise awareness among the population about the importance and significance of vaccination to ensure its widespread use. It should be explained that there is always a risk of infection, especially for those who refuse to get a vaccination.”
The purpose of vaccination is to achieve collective immunity in the population. According to the laws of epidemiology, the epidemic process will collapse if two-thirds of the population develops artificial immunity, both natural and vaccinated, as a result of the disease. The expectation of the population from this vaccination is to reduce the spread of infection and keep it at a manageable level. As a result of different mutations, although it is theoretically possible for the virus to escape the effects of existing vaccines, these facts have not yet been confirmed for a new kind of coronavirus infection.
