WHO has lent clarity to our inquiries about the link between AstraZeneca and thrombosis, Azerbaijani MP says

“In recent days, many opinions have been voiced about the link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and thrombosis, which has raised some questions in the world, as well as in our country,” Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis Health Committee Rashad Mahmudov told ONA.

“I would like to bring to your notice that the AstraZeneca vaccine is one of three vaccines approved by the World Health Organization, and months ago European countries, especially the United Kingdom, use this vaccine. To date, although people have doubts, scientific studies, as well as expert studies, have not revealed a definitive link between vaccination and thrombosis.

Taking this into account, the WHO has clarified our repeated inquiries on this issue. The WHO has recommended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine not only in our country but all over the world. as well as the use of this vaccine continues all over the world,” R.Mahmudov noted.

According to MP, within the framework of the COVAX platform, more than 400.000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have been allocated for Azerbaijan: “Though the first bunch of vaccine has already been brought, the only vaccine produced in China is used in Azerbaijan now. Using the AstraZeneca vaccine has not been started yet. We have sufficient reserves to use the CoronaVac vaccine for a long time.”

R. Mahmudov stressed that as always after any suspicious moment is deeply researched by our country based on opinions of relevant bodies, local and international experts, vaccination will be applied.”
