Teymur Rajabov not to take part in the national squad of Azerbaijan in the European Championship

The national team of the Azerbaijani male chess players has been changed, ONA reports.

Our country will not compete with the main squad at the European Championship which will be held from October 24 to November 2 in Batumi, Georgia.

Teymur Rajabov’s staying away caused this. The Grandmaster qualifies for the Tournament of Applicants, will be watching the European Championship as a fan by winning the World Cup. And Nicat Abbasov, who was supposed to replace him, has not been taken to Batumi due to exhaustion. As a result, the captain of the team Eltac Safarli has joined Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Arkadij Naiditsch, Rauf Mammadov, and Gadir Huseynov.

And Gunay Mammadzade, Xanim Balajayeva, Gulnar Mammadova, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, and Turkan Mammadyarova will represent Azerbaijan at the European Women's Championship.

Both squads will be lead by Fikrat Sideyfzadeh. According to the lot, men's team of Azerbaijan will face Serbia in the first round and the women's team will face Latvia.

Note that, the men's national squad of Azerbaijan won the European Championship 2 years ago. Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Radjabov, Arkadij Naiditsch, Rauf Mammadov, and Gadir Huseynov won the third gold medal of the continental championship for Azerbaijan in the last analogous competition in Greece.
