Death toll soars 41 in Turkey avalanche - UPDATED-4

The number of people who died after the second snow avalanche in Van Province of Turkey has reached 41, ONA’s local bureau reports.

There is not full information if there is anybody under an avalanche or not at the moment.

Number of people, died as a result of snow avalanche occurred in Turkey's Van province increased, ONA reports citing NTV.

Number of victims of the second avalanche has reached 26, while the injured 53.

Thus, 31 people died, as a result of the two avalanches occurred today.

5 people died in the first avalanche, which occurred in the night.

A second avalanche has slammed into a mountain road in eastern Turkey, killing at least eight rescue workers and leaving 20 others buried under the snow, ONA reports.

The emergency crew had been sent to the site to find two other people missing in a previous avalanche on Tuesday.

Some 300 emergency service workers were called to a highway near the mountain-surrounded town of Bahcesehir, in Van province, which borders Iran, after an avalanche struck late Tuesday, killing five people.

A local governor said 25 emergency service members were rescued from under the snow and hospitalized Wednesday.

Dozens of Turkish rescue workers were missing Wednesday after being hit by an avalanche in eastern Turkey while on a mission to find two other people missing in a previous avalanche, ONA reports citing Turkish media.

The second avalanche struck Wednesday as 300 emergency workers were searching for the two missing victims.

Fog and heavy snow were hampering the rescue efforts, NTV television reported.

The workers were on the mountain Wednesday after five people were killed in an avalanche that hit a highway.
