Erdogan: "Ankara may close Incirlik Air Base, if Washington imposes sanctions"

"Ankara could seek to shut down the Incirclik airbase if the US were to move forward with imposing sanctions against Turkey," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, APA reports citing Sputnik.

Prior to this, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, in an interview aired on 11 December on the A Haber television station, warned that Turkey could seek to shut down the Incirlik airbase and the Kurecik radar station.

On 11 December, the US Senate's Foreign Relations Committee approved a bill on sanctioning Turkey through the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act.

The sanctions, if passed by the Senate and enacted by the president, may include freezing Turkey's assets, restricting visas, and limiting access to credit.
