“I note once more that sides have to come an agreement on the composition of negotiation process related to Nagorno Garabagh conflict. It is difficult to argue on it”, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said at joint press conference on the finals of his meeting with Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, ONA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
He noted that he was a participant of Nagorno Garabagh negotiations at an early stage of consultations, but at some point, the Armenian leadership, one of the previous presidents, made the decision that Yerevan would represent the interests of Nagorno Garabagh.
“It is clear to all that it will not be possible to get any agreement without consent of population of Nagorno Garabagh. Armenian side just will not sign it. Our position is just that. The principles of territorial integrity, self-determination and exclusively peaceful settlement of disputes are enshrined in all documents that are discussed by the sides. In any case, a final solution should take into account all these principles, and neither Yerevan nor Baku argues against this. Any treaty, moreover on this challenging issue, is a compromise," Lavrov said. As co-chairs we try to make sure that this compromise is fair and reflects a real and fair balance of interests”, said Russian FM while he was asked Moscow’s attitude to the Armenian proposal on returning Nagorno Garabagh issue to negotiating table.
