North Korean First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Son Hu has embarked on a visit to Russia on Monday morning, Russia’s embassy in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea wrote on its Facebook page, ONA reports citing TASS.
"On November 18, Russian Ambassador Alexander Matsegora saw off at the Pyongyang Sunan International Airport First Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hu, a member of the State Affairs Commission, who went on a visit to Russia," the embassy said in a statement.
Earlier, Kyodo news agency reported that the senior North Korean official had arrived in Beijing. According to the report, she plans to exchange views with Russia on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the talks on denuclearization with the United States.
The consultations between the US and North Korea have been locked in a stalemate since February this year after the Hanoi Summit between leaders Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un failed to bear any fruit. Since then, Trump and Kim met in Panmunjom in June where they agreed to restart dialogue but this pledge has yet to materialize.
Choe Son Hu was one of chief negotiators of North Korea’s Foreign Ministry, who arranged the summit between Trump and Kim in Hanoi this February.
